Iowa true freshman place kicker Mike Meyer was awarded special teams player of the week honors from the Big Ten on Monday.
Meyer connected on four field goals, including a career-long 42-yarder, to account for 12 points in Iowa’s 18-13 victory at Indiana. The freshman kicker booted field goals of 23, 27 and 27 yards before hitting a 42-yarder early in the fourth quarter to pull the Hawkeyes within 13-12.
Iowa would tally a late touchdown for the victory. Meyer picks up the first weekly laurel of his career.
The last Iowa player to win special teams honors from the Big ten was Paki O’Meara, who was named on Sept. 7, 2010.
