2011 Cedar Rapids Guard Josh Oglesby signed his letter of intent to play at Iowa. Coach Fran McCaffery and the Washington High star comment on the signing.

IOWA CITY, Ia. - University of Iowa Men’s Basketball Coach Fran McCaffery announced today that Josh Oglesby has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa.

“We are ecstatic to have Josh Oglesby become part of the Hawkeye family,” said McCaffery. “I had an opportunity to watch him over the summer and the fall, and he consistently showed an incredible amount of versatility. He’s an outstanding shooter, but more importantly he’s a really good basketball player. Josh wanted to be a Hawkeye and there’s no question in my mind that he’s going to have a tremendous career. He’s going to be somebody people remember around here for a long time.”

Oglesby is a 6-5, 187-pound shooting guard from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He will be a three-year starter and a senior captain for Washington High School this winter. As a junior, he averaged 16.3 points, five rebounds and two assists, and was tabbed second team all-state, all sub-state, and first team all-conference and all-metro. Oglesby, who was named his team’s Offensive Player of the Year, ranked sixth in conference scoring, and first in 3-point percentage (third in the state). He averaged 12 points, three rebounds and two assists his sophomore campaign. He was an honorable mention all-conference honoree and was named the team’s Clutch Performer of the Year and Co-Offensive Player of the Year in 2009. He ranked seventh in the state in free throw percentage and 15th in 3-point percentage.

Oglesby was also a member of the Iowa Barnstormers, where he was recognized on five all-tournament teams. He helped the Barnstormers to five tournament titles.

Oglesby enters his senior season with a rivals.com rating of 118 in the country and is considered the 36th-best shooting guard in the nation.

“After watching a few practices over the last month and seeing the team play in Sunday’s exhibition, I am excited about Iowa basketball,” said Oglesby. “It looks like what basketball has always been for me, fun and exciting. I love the players, the coaching staff, the style, the look, and everything about Iowa basketball. I’m glad to be on board.”

“Josh is very comfortable and knows the players on our team,” added McCaffery. “I think, without a doubt, he’s somebody that will blend well with the pieces that we have in place. He can make shots, play more than one position and attack the rim. Josh can make plays off the dribble for himself and for others, in addition to the fact that he’s got tremendous size.”

Iowa is expected to sign a second player on Friday. Class of 2011 Ohio Forward Aaron White is scheduled to ink his letter of intent at 12:45 central at his high school.
