McCaffery Comments on Aaron White

Iowa officially announced the signing of a second 2011 recruit to a letter of intent. Hawkeye Coach Fran McCaffery received the paper work for Ohio forward Aaron White and speaks about him right here.

University of Iowa Head Men’s Basketball Coach Fran McCaffery announced today that Aaron White has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa.

“Aaron White is a versatile front court player who’s tremendously skilled,” said McCaffery. “He can really shoot and pass the ball, and put it on the floor. He’s long and also very athletic. Aaron can finish in traffic, has tremendous court demeanor, doesn’t rattle, he’s very concentrated and really thinks the game. He’s a guy who is really fun to play with because he understands how to win. Aaron is a tremendous team player who can lead his team in scoring or assists.”

White is a 6-8, 215-pound forward from Strongsville High School in Strongsville, Ohio. White is a four-year letterman and honor roll student. He enters his senior season as a preseason second team all-Ohio selection by Rise Magazine. He helped his high school team earn back-to-back runner-up finishes and reach the district levels his sophomore and junior seasons. White averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks as a sophomore while being recognized on the second team all-conference and all-district squads. He improved his numbers his junior campaign, averaging 19.9 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks, while earning first team all-league and all-district accolades, and being named team MVP. Additionally, White was tabbed MVP of a national holiday tournament in Orlando last December. White also played AAU basketball the last two years with the Ohio Basketball Club.

“I’d like to thank Coach McCaffery for this opportunity,” said White. “I’m very excited to get my senior year going and extremely excited to be a Hawkeye next season. Go Hawks!”

“We love his versatility,” added McCaffery. “He can play any front court position. Aaron can handle the ball, shoot it from 3-point range, attack the rim, help against the press, be a pick-and-pop four and has a low-post game. He also has the basketball IQ necessary to know and understand different positions effectively.”

White joins Iowa native Josh Oglesby (6-5, 187), who signed on Wednesday, as Iowa’s fall signees for Coach McCaffery.
