Thompson, a 6-8 power forward from Ames, IA averaged 14.2 points and 6.9 rebounds during his junior season.
Thompson had a productive summer last year, as he played on the 16 and under Martin Brothers team, which enabled him to show college coaches first hand the potential that he possesses as a forward who has guard skills.
Thompson told Hoopmasters.com why he chose to become a Hawkeye, and where their basketball program is headed in the future.
"Iowa's shown they're going to have a good future with the recruiting classes that they are bringing in, with the current one with Jeff (Horner) and Greg (Brunner), as well as the class that will be in next season," Thompson stated.
Other than the Hawkeyes, Kansas, Wisconsin, Iowa State Minnesota, Nebraska and Kansas State all have shown interest in the combo forward.
Iowa now has received three solid commitments from the members of the class of 2004. Thompson joins J.R. Angle, a 6-6 wing forward from Trafalger, IN Indian Creek and athletic power forward Doug Thomas out of Southeastern CC, IA.
