Chance Early grew up dreaming about being an Iowa Hawkeye. In the end, however, there was no place like home, or at least being close to it.
The 2011 Wide Receiver from San Diego and son of former Iowa standout, Quinn Early, has decided to accept a preferred walk-on offer from Nevada. Iowa offered him the same opportunity and brought him in on an official visit last month.
"After looking at both of them and talking it over with my dad and mom, Nevada was just the better fit for me," Chance said. "Part of it is because it's closer to home. They also pass the ball a lot and really use their receivers. It's also a smaller school, and I liked that."
Chance said his father called Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz to thank him for the opportunity. Chance also planned to call the Hawkeye head man.
"It was always Iowa in my mind," Chance said. "Things kind of changed during the process. I just became more open to other schools."
While Iowa employs a pro-style offense, Nevada favors the Pistol.
"They said I'll have a chance to earn a scholarship there pretty quickly," Chance said. "They didn't sign any receivers in this class."
