According to a Connecticut newspaper, Iowa offered and Class of 2011 DE Dean Tsopanides accepted a scholarship from the school this week.

In an unusual turn, the Iowa football program gained a commitment from a Class of 2011 defensive end this week. Signing day was in February.

According to an article in Thursday's Register Citizen out of Connecticut, Torrington High Defensive End Dean Tsopanides pledged to the Hawkeyes this week after a visit to the school on Tuesday. Iowa Assistant Coach Ken O'Keefe saw him for the first time at a camp last week the paper reported.

Iowa offered and Tsopanides accepted a full scholarship. He was listed at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds during last season.

Tsopanides won a state wrestling championship. He's expected to report to Iowa on August 3 for camp, the paper said.
