Class of 2012 wide receiver Canaan Severin recently released the Top 5 programs he's considering for his college destination. If you plotted the schools on a map, one would sit quite a ways from the others.
Have faith, Hawkeye fans. Location doesn't appear like it will be determine the ultimate landing spot for the Massachusetts standout.
"I don't think distance is a big factor," Severin said. "If you're comfortable somewhere, you're comfortable."
Severin, a three-star prospect according to Scout.com, visited Iowa City last month.
"The facilities stood out to me and the coaches and the players," Severin said of his trip. "I really like their coaching staff. They're awesome people."
Severin said that he doesn't rank his Top 5 in any order and he doesn't claim a leader right now. The end of his recruitment is up in the air.
"I'm not really sure when I'm deciding right now," he said.
You get the feeling that the Hawkeyes will be in it with Severin until he chooses a school. He's connected to Iowa in a few ways as you can read in this story I wrote on him back in May.
"Coach Campbell likes my size and my ball skills and he's coached great college wide receivers," the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Severin said. "I honestly think he could do the same with me."
Severin, who is leaning towards an accounting major in college, feels his best football assets are his size, hands and ability to catch passes over the middle.
"I think i need to work on my speed and route running," he said. "When that is down to perfection, everyone better watch out!"
