Grant, Heiar Leaving Publisher

What had been rumored for much of the week apparently came to fruition on Thursday night when Marcus Grant said via Twitter that he would be leaving the University of Iowa. The school confirmed it on Friday along with the exit of OL Dan Heiar.

Iowa CITY, Iowa - True freshman wide receiver Marcus Grant announced through twitter Thursday night that he will be leaving the University of Iowa for personal reasons. The New England native said he will be transferring to a school closer to home.

Here are his tweets in the order he posted them:

Grant was Iowa's first verbal commitment in the 2011 Class out of Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts. He played in five games this season after burning his redshirt in the Hawkeye opener. He caught one pass for 12 yards. ranked Grant as a three-star recruit on its five-star scale. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder held scholarship offers from Connecticut, Iowa and Syracuse. His father played at Boston College and the Eagles were thought to have interest.

Grant joins defensive lineman John Raymon as defectors from the '11 class. The latter hails from Pennsylvania.

Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz made the Grant and OL Dan Heiar exits from the programs official on Friday. Ferentz Statement:

“Wide Receiver Marcus Grant will finish the fall semester and has decided to transfer to a school closer to home. Offensive Lineman Dan Heiar will finish the fall semester and has decided to leave school to pursue other interests. Our coaching staff and players wish Marcus and Dan the very best.”
