Iowa received its second verbal commitment in its 2013 recruiting class Tuesday morning when Rock Island (IL) High Wide Receiver Derrick Willies pledged to the Hawkeyes.
"It's home," Willies said in a text message. "I feel like it's the right place for me."
Willies picked up his Iowa offer on Friday when he unofficially visited the school. He chose the Hawkeyes ahead of reported offers from Iowa State, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Northern Illinois and interest from Wisconsin and Nebraska.
Willies played football last fall for Burlington (IA) High where he caught 57 passes for 934 yards and seven touchdowns. He transferred to Rock Island after the season.
Willies was scheduled to visit Iowa State on Thursday. He's decided not to make that trip after verballing to the Hawkeyes. He visited Wisconsin at the end of last month.
Willies joins Indianapolis Pike High defensive lineman David Kenney in the 2013 Iowa Class. Kenney pledged to the Hawkeyes last Wednesday after visiting them.
Check out this story we did on Willies Sunday after he visited Iowa.
Hawkeye Insider will have more on the Willies' commitment tonight.
