Lions Grab Reiff Publisher
Posted Apr 26, 2012

The Three-Day NFL Draft event kicked off Thursday night. The Detroit Lions chose former Hawkeyes LT Riley Reiff with the 23rd pick of the first round.

For the third year in a row, the first round of the NFL Draft included an Iowa player. The Detroit Lions tabbed Iowa offensive lineman Riley Reiff with the 23rd overall pick in the selection process.

Adrian Clayborn was chosen by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 20th pick last April. In 2010, the Green Bay Packers scooped up Bryan Bulaga with the 23rd selection. Reiff and Bulaga left school as juniors.

Reiff joins former Hawkeyes Amari Spievey and Ryan Donahue in Detroit.

Reiff became the 19th first-round pick in Iowa history. He was the sixth Iowa player to go in the opening round since Kirk Ferentz took over the program in 1999.

The draft continues on Friday and Saturday with the second through seventh rounds.
