Andre Patton hadn't heard from Iowa until early last week when Hawkeye Assistant Darrell Wilson stopped by his school. By Friday, the Big Ten program had offered him a scholarship.
"We talked and he said he liked my tape," the 6-foot-4, 190-pound Class of 2013 receiver said. "He said he was going to show it to the other coaches. Friday, I got the call.
"I don't really know much about Iowa but I would like to learn more."
Patton plays for St. Elizabeth High in Wilmington, DE. His recruitment is moving along steadily. He reports having eight scholarship offers - Boston College, North Carolina State, Rutgers, Syracuse, West Virginia, Purdue, Connecticut and Iowa.
While Delaware isn't a heavily recruited state, Patton feels like college coaches know about him.
"It's not really hard if you try," he said. "You just have to put your tape out on You Tube, go to a couple of camps and then they'll find you.
"I feel like my name is being put out there. I feel like other schools are hearing about me."
Patton only has visited one college campus. He attended a game at Rutgers last fall.
"I've been busy," he said. "I'm going to make my way down to West Virginia sometime in June. Depending on how things go, I might be going to a camp at Michigan State. I'd also like to get out to Iowa and Purdue."
Patton, who plans to study mechanical engineering in college, hopes to pick a program in the next several months.
"I'm going to make my decision sometime between the middle of summer and the end of summer," he said. "I want to get it out of the way before the season starts. It's still pretty wide open."
Patton knows for what he is looking in a college program.
"I want to go somewhere where they throw the ball," he said. "I've watched some of the teams that have offered me in the spring games. I would like to get away for college, but not too far."
Patton said he does not consider Iowa and Purdue to be "too far."
Patton, who also plays basketball, reports running a 4.3-second, 40-yard dash last fall.
"I would say that I'm fast," he said. "I'm long. I can go get the ball. I can stretch the field. For my size, I think I have very good movement with my hips so it makes it easier for me to catch the ball."
Delaware wide receiver Andre Patton's recruitment is moving at a steady clip. On Friday, the Class of 2013 prospect added his eighth scholarship offer when the Iowa Hawkeyes came forward with an opportunity.
