Mycial Allen was riding a wave of emotion Sunday night. He tweeted that he was committing to Iowa and in turn received congratulations from a number of Hawkeye fans via social media.
Unfortunately for the Class of 2013 athlete from Detroit King High, Iowa was not ready for his commitment. The coaches asked him to hold off until he visits Iowa City.
"They want me to come down there with my family and see the campus, first," Allen said. "I'm going down there on July 29."
Iowa is recruiting the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Allen as a wide receiver. Other schools view him as a defensive back.
Allen classified his recruitment as being "open" right now.
Iowa has received one receiver verbal commitment in the '13 group. Derrick Willies from Rock Island, IL pledged to the Hawkeyes on April 10.
Indiana's Mike Rogers said a few weeks ago that he was going to select between Iowa and Bowling Green. The '13 wide receiver then delayed his announcement and ended up committing to the MAC school last week. It was speculated that the Hawkeyes were not ready to accept his pledge.
Iowa has known offers out to '13 wide receivers Brian Lemelle, Andre Patton, Trey Kilgore and Dan Monteroso. The Hawkeyes are thought to be sitting pretty well with the latter two in that group.
