Josey Jewell was offered and accepted a scholarship offer from Iowa, he confirmed in a text Monday morning. The 2013 linebacker from Decorah (Iowa) High was believed to be the Hawkeyes 17th verbal pledge in the class.
Northern Iowa offered the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Jewell a scholarship.
“I am very thankful and excited to have the opportunity to become a Hawkeye," Jewell said in a press release from Decorah High. "My teammates, teachers and coaches have done a great deal to help me reach this point. I am hopeful that the lessons learned thus far from them will help me contribute as much as I can to the Iowa Football program.”
Jewell stands out in football, basketball, track and baseball for the Vikings. This past year, Jewell helped lead the Decorah Vikings to the Class 3A state championship in football after a runner-up finish in 2011.
Jewell earned all-state honors in his final two seasons, rolling up 3,240 yards rushing with 42 touchdowns from his fullback position. He totaled 190 solo and 120 assisted tackles as a linebacker.
