Stoops has hired the two-year Michigan D-line coach, according to sources and in a report first released by Go Blue Wolverine, Sooners Illustrated's partner site on the Scout.com Network.
An official announcement is anticipated next Monday, according to the report.
Montgomery made $205,000 coaching the entire defensive line for the Wolverines, but is expected to earn at least $270,000 at OU--that was the departed Jackie Shipp's salary--and perhaps upwards of that, though that contract figure has not been released, coaching up only the interior defensive line.
Prior to coaching at Michigan, he worked year stints as defensive line coach at both Wyoming and Northern Iowa, as well as a couple other coaching positions at UNI, North Iowa Area Community College and Iowa City West High School after playing, graduating and working as a student assistant at Stoops' alma mater, Iowa.
Montgomery fills another of two coaching vacancies for the staff after James Patton, Bruce Kittle and Jackie Shipp were all let go just weeks earlier.
