It was a long but fruitful weekend for Nick Rakocevic.
The Class of 2016 forward traveled from his Chicago home to Iowa on Friday before heading off to Cincinnati and a Xavier visit a day later. Both schools offered him a scholarship, he said.
The Hawkeyes and Musketeers joined reported offers from Creighton, Illinois, Indiana, Miami, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin for the 6-foot-10 Rakocevic. Schools like Duke, Florida, Marquette, Northwestern, Oregon and Purdue have shown the St. Joseph's of Westchester (IL) forward interest.
The Hawkeyes have been involved with Rakocevic for quite some time. He'd been trying to visit the Big Ten school for awhile and finally got there on Friday.
"I got to see the campus and the facilities. I also met up with some academic counselors and got to see Iowa City. It was a small campus with no distractions, which is a good thing.
"Iowa is different. They don't have the population of a big city but the fans look really loyal. The academics are great," Rakocevic said.
The Iowa coaches expressed their feeling that the Mac Irvin Fire forward would fit well into their up-tempo system.
"They explained how my style of play fits their style and that Coach (Fran) McCaffery lets his players play freely and with an open mind," Rakocevic said.
Rakocevic met one-on-one with McCaffery to develop their relationship.
"It was great. He had some great experiences coaching guys like Chris Paul and David West," Rakocevic said.
From Iowa City, Rakocevic made his way to Cincinnati.
"(Xavier) was a smaller campus, but I liked it. The facilities were really nice and the locker room was great," Rakocevic said.
Musketeer Head Coach Chris Mack made Rakocevic feel comfortable.
"I liked him. He seemed really mellow. I loved his whole coaching staff. They're all great people," Rakocevic said.
Rakocevic said he doesn't have any firm plans for more campus visits in the near future with the July evaluation period approaching.
"I'm not sure at this point. I might stop by DePaul, Northwestern and Purdue," he said.
Nick Rakocevic stopped at two schools during the weekend and ended up receiving good news on both campuses. The 2016 Chicago forward talked about picking up scholarship offers from Iowa and Xavier to add to his growing list of options.
