Slater Visits Iowa

Iowa played host to Michael Slater last week. The St. Louis defensive end came away impressed. Find out what he said about the Hawkeyes and the rest of his recruitment.

For Iowa, it's in a good-news, bad-news position with Michael Slater following his campus visit last week.

The St. Louis-area defensive end left town with the Hawkeyes as his favorite school. That being said, he's decided to remain open to other programs and doesn't plan on committing until after his senior season.

"Their coaches are amazing. The players that I met are really welcoming with open arms and the environment of Iowa city is really good," the 6-foot-3, 245-pounder from Parkway Central (Chesterfield, MO) said.

In addition to Iowa, Slater reports scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Buffalo, Illinois State and Ball State. Of the schools that have yet to extend opportunities, he said he's hearing most from Kansas State, Nebraska and Purdue.

"I haven't visited anywhere else (other than Iowa) and I don't think I'll be going anywhere else because it almost the end of the summer. I'm just waiting for other colleges. That's it. I'll commit after the season," Slater said.

Slater still is open about a college major but is interested in Sports Management. As well as strong academics, he is searching for a football program that meets his needs.

"Everything that I said Iowa had is what I'm after. The coaches are a big part of my college career. I want to be surrounded by the best athletes because that's just going to make me better. The atmosphere of the city I'm living in is important. Whatever makes me the most comfortable and where I'm the happiest at is where I'll go," he said.
