It's no secret that the Iowa Hawkeyes are looking to add to their offensive line ranks in this year's recruiting class.
One player receiving some interest from Iowa and several other high major programs is Kyle Calloway of Belleville, Illinois.
The 6-foot-7, 270-pound Calloway attends Belleville East High School and is a two-sport standout.
He also plays basketball and has been a part of the St. Louis Falcons AAU basketball club in recent years.
But Calloway believes he will play college football at the next level. He attended the recent Nike Camp in Iowa City and is also planning to come back to Iowa City next week for their annual football camp.
Hawkeyenation.com recently got in touch with Calloway's father, Eddie, for the latest on his son
THE LOWDOWN ON KYLE CALLOWAY:
EDDIE CALLOWAY: "He has been primarily a basketball player who played football as his fun sport and was playing basketball as his serious sport. He has always been tall. Last year he decided that football was probably the best sport to play in college. Unfortunately he sprained his ankle pretty bad before the first game of the year and spent the entire year nursing it."
"He has always played defensive line, but is told by almost all of the coaches that have called or who have stopped by to see him is that he will play offensive tackle in college."
"In basketball he only has two schools recruiting him that he is even vaguely interested in and they are Northern Iowa and Western Illinois. But like I said he would rather play college football."
SCHOOLS OF INTEREST:
EDDIE CALLOWAY: "In football he has D1 schools from all over the nation writing, but the schools that seem most interested, the schools that stopped by and saw him back in May were; Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kansas, Kansas State and Northwestern."
"Kyle's favorite schools right now are Iowa, Notre Dame, Illinois, Arizona State and Missouri."
"He really liked the coaches staffs at Iowa and Illinois. Missouri wants him to come out to their camp for one day. As of right now, Iowa is his #1 choice and we are hoping that they offer him a scholarship this next week at their camp."
"Kyle is also considering attending one day camps at Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. A lot of that will depend on what plays out with Iowa. Right Iowa is his number one choice and that is why Kyle will be there Monday. "
"With my being in the Military, Kyle has moved all over (Illinois, Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, Kansas, Japan, and Florida) and doesn't really have a loyalty to any state. In fact, if he goes to a school and redshirts (which he prefers) he will spend five years at that school and that will be longer than he has lived at any other location. The Air Force will move me after Kyle graduates next year so since I have no idea where I will live, choosing a school close to home is out of the question."
