There has been some talk the past few months that the Hawkeyes, or specifically offensive line coach Reese Morgan, have a love affair with Millard North prospects.
It’s not hard for Iowa fans to understand after seeing the success that Adam Shada has delivered on the field, and the reported progress Mustang Seth Olsen.
Nor is it hard to argue when you continue to look at the success of the Millard North program under head coach Fred Petito and see state championship after state championship. That especially holds true in the recent years, including this fall.
Jeff Tarpinian verballed to Iowa shortly after attending their summer camp and now will take his long awaited official visit to Iowa City on December 9th.
"I'm going over to Iowa on December 9th and Adam Shada is going to be my host," said Tarpinian. "It’s the weekend of their team banquet, too."
There is a possibility that his teammate, Corey Young, could be invited for a visit on that weekend as well.
"I really don't know about Corey's situation as I'm not sure Coach Morgan addressed it while he was in today," added Tarpinian, who noted he was weighing around 200 pounds. "I know Coach Morgan spoke with Paul Homer and really loves Paul. There are just a few things that have to happen to open up a spot for Paul, and if things were able to work out where all three of us could play at Iowa; it'd be awesome."
Tarpinian expects former teammate and host for this weekend, Adam Shada, to make him feel at home in Iowa City.
"Adam is quiet around everybody else, but he doesn't get like that when he gets around me," stated Tarpinian.
After all, this is the same Adam Shada that called Tarpinian the night he heard Jeff had been offered just to tell him how excited he was.
Tarpinian, who only played quarterback at Millard North this fall, also learned he could perhaps be joining Shada in the defensive backfield.
"Coach Morgan said that their defensive back coach, Coach (Phil) Parker, thinks that I'll be able to play free safety for him, but Coach Morgan says he sees me as a LEO linebacker," added Tarpinian, who rushed for 2,080 yards and 30 touchdowns while passing for 400 yards and two touchdowns. "Really, I don't care what position I end up playing as long as I am able to help out the team."
Junior Ed Miles played the LEO position for Iowa during the 2005 season
Obviously, there is a big weight difference when comparing playing safety to linebacker.
