Van Coleman of hoopmasters.com caught up with 6-5 175-pound combo guard Jake Kelly this afternoon, and he informed us that he had committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes after visiting Iowa City this past weekend.

"I'm really excited about committing to Iowa," Jake Kelly told Hoopmasters. "I really got along well with the team, and I really feel comfortable with the coaching staff. Their all great guys."

"I know I'll need to help fill some big shoes," Kelly continued. "With Adam Haluska and Mike Henderson graduating, I need to be ready to step in and help right away."

We asked Jake what were the things he felt he needed to work on to be ready next fall when he gets to Iowa City.

"Well I think I need to become more of a floor leader," Kelly explained. "Plus I need to add more weight and get stronger. Right now I'm only 175-pounds, I'd like to come in around 185-190."

Jake Kelly is an athletic combo has flown under the radar since transferring to Carmel, IN. He currently is rated among the top two hundred prospects in the rising senior class, but could jump up in those rankings if he reaches his team goal for the year.

"Our goal is to win the Indiana high school crown," Kelly related to Hoopmasters. "That's where I feel i can come along as a leader."

Jake is long, has handle to create off the dribble and can flat out drill it from NBA arc on in. He fills a definite need for a shooter to replace Haluska in the Iowa rotation.

He chose Iowa over interest from Penn State, Pepperdine, Dayton, St. Louis, and recently Virginia.
