Abe Satterfield, a 2-star DB out of Erie, Pa. made his official visit to Iowa City this weekend after committing back in August. It was the first time Abe had ever been to Iowa City, and he thoroughly enjoyed his visit, rating it a 10.
Abe is from the same high school, Erie Cathedral Prep, as former Hawkeyes Ed Hinkel and Bob Sanders. Abe said he stays in contact with Ed every once in a while, and with some of his younger relatives.
While on his visit, Satterfield attended meetings with Iowa's assistant coaches, including Phil Parker.
"Coach Parker, he's the DB coach, and we went over plays and stuff," Satterfield said. "He expected us to know it then and there. We just learned it. He's a good guy, and he's going to be a really good coach. I like him a lot, all the coaches, we got to talk to him a lot. We had all the coaches in all the meetings, and we just had a good time talking.
Coach Parker is known for getting on his guys on the field and in the practice facility, and that certainly came through in meetings.
"He expects the best from us," Satterfield said. "Even just learning the stuff, he expected us to know it right away. He was asking us questions. He asked me what coverages we were playing, what packages we were in. I knew it started with a C, but I couldn't remember the name of it, and he just started flipping out on me. (Laughs) That's what coaches are supposed to do. All his DBs are the greatest guys, so I'm ready to play for him."
Hosted on his visit by Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, Satterfield spent Sunday morning at Kirk Ferentz's house eating breakfast and getting to Ferentz on a more personal level.
"He wants to get to know kids and help them out," Satterfield said of Ferentz. "He said Iowa may not be the place for everybody, he's just trying to help everybody figure out what place is right for them. He's a great guy, he doesn't just care about the football things, he cares about the person all together."
Satterfield said other teams had been trying to sway him from his Iowa commitment, getting him to take another official visit, but after talking with the staff, Abe said he no longer plans on taking any other official visits.
"I'm pretty much done," he said. "I asked (the Iowa staff) if it would be OK, and they said, ‘We usually don't let kids take more visits.' They were going to say OK, but I just said, ‘OK, I won't go to any more visits, I'm set.'"
