BOWLSBY, ALFORD STATEMENTS
Oct. 1, 2002
IOWA CITY – Legal charges have been brought against Iowa basketball player Pierre Pierce. Pierce is a sophomore guard from Westmont, IL.
The following is a statement by Iowa Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby:
“This has been a very difficult process for everyone. We want to do everything possible to accommodate a fair, thorough and appropriate resolution. Pending that resolution, Pierre Pierce will be suspended immediately from all basketball related activities. This suspension will include all contests and practices as well as weight training sessions, team meetings and meals and all other men’s basketball team functions. While our typical procedure is to allow the legal processes to run their course, the severity of the allegations necessitates the rescission of privileges until the matter is brought to a close.”
The following is a statement by Iowa Basketball Coach Steve Alford:
“We understand the serious charges that have been made towards Pierre. We also support Pierre’s suspension from our team while we allow for resolution to this serious matter. Our entire basketball family stands behind Pierre as we hope for a very fair outcome to this charge.”
