Gary Dolphin, the play by play voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes, reported today on 1040 WHO out of Des Moines that Jewell Hampton will NOT require surgery, and will be ready to go for the season opener.

Dolphin spoke by phone with Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz who said that all parties involved believe that surgery would not be needed, and that the injury can heal on it's own and that Hampton should be "ready to go" for Iowa's season opener Labor Day weekend against Iowa.

Ferentz acknowledged that there was a ligament injury to Jewell Hampton's knee, but did not elaborate. He did say the injury was similar to one suffered by former Hawkeye Dallas Clark in 2006. Clark missed a month then came back and was instrumental in the Indianapolis Colts playoff push and ultimate Super Bowl title.
