While the 2009 Iowa football officially kicks off just 40 days from Monday’s Big Ten Kickoff luncheon in Chicago, this has always seemed like the ‘unofficial’ start to the year. HawkeyeNation.com will be in the Windy City in full force to start bringing you the notes, quotes and anecdotes for this year. Read on for information on how to stay totally connected to the Hawkeyes this year.

While the 2009 Iowa football officially kicks off just 40 days from Monday’s Big Ten Kickoff luncheon in Chicago, this has always seemed like the ‘unofficial’ start to the year.

Most of the major media outlets that cover the sport will be on hand in the Windy City, as will HawkeyeNation.com and 90% of the media that covers the Iowa Hawkeyes on a week in and week out basis.

This year, one of the things we are adding to our arsenal to cover the Hawkeyes is our twitter page at www.twitter.com/hawkeyenation.

Brian Finley began using this medium for HawkeyeNation.com at the 2009 Wrestling Nationals and the feedback was very positive. Back in June, we decided we would use this regularly during the entire Hawkeye sports year, and have been using it to alert Iowa fans to Hawkeye related news items since then.

For the next several months and thereafter, our twitter page will be a supplement to what we will be doing here at HawkeyeNation.com. Breaking news requires as many vehicles and formats as possible to get the word out, and it doesn’t remain a secret for very long. Our approach will be to make sure you stay as informed as possible on all things related to the Hawks.

Being that twitter only allows for a maximum of 140 characters used in each message, the stories will still be expanded upon here at the site, so we believe this will augment what it is we do on a daily basis during each Iowa sports season.

This will be in addition to our photos, articles, columns, transcripts, audio and video features we will be filing not only from Chicago, but for the entire Iowa football, basketball and wrestling campaigns.

Be sure to get signed up at our twitter page, as it’s a free service and requires very little to ‘get in the game’. While you won’t be left out in the cold if you choose not to sign up for it, there may be instances where we will first report news via our twitter page because we can do that via our cell phones, if we are not at a computer when we learn of something, or are unable to access the computer for a while. But we can ‘tweet’ about breaking news, 24/7. Just click on the link above to get signed up, and you will join roughly 500 other Hawkeye fans that have already done so.

We’ll be tweeting on the way to Chicago, while we are there and on the way home, along with filing stories and photos. Also, Kirk Ferentz meets with the Iowa media around 1:30 on Monday..looks for tweets and reports to follow soon after.

Thank you for making HawkeyeNation.com a part of your daily Iowa Hawkeye experience, and we look forward to serving you once again during the 2009 Iowa Hawkeye Sports season.
