From his opening statement: Needless to say, I'm sorry about the situation that developed with Todd Lickliter. Todd has been a great friend and will continue to be. I've got tremendous respect for him as a basketball coach. It didn't work out, obviously, the way anyone wanted it to, but I don't think there's any question about Todd's coaching ability, his integrity; just a tremendous coach. I wish him and his family all of the best, certainly.
From On The Side:
Q: Were you surprised by Todd's situation? Did that catch you off guard?
Kirk Ferentz: You know, I don't know if surprised is the right word. I think there's already been enough written about everything. And I'm sure there has been more talked about. But I guess my only comment is that I've really enjoyed our friendship and I hope it continues. I just think Todd's an excellent coach. You know, things didn't work out the way anybody wanted them to> I think everybody would be in agreement on that. I'd also way that here's a guy that's coached in a couple of Sweet 16s. I don't know how many people in the state of Iowa have been to a Sweet 16 twice in the last 10 years and I don't know how many coaches (have). I don't know. That's not what I do. But I don't know how many coaches have coached in a couple of Sweet 16s. My guess that the list of multiple ones are all pretty good coaches. That's how Todd is. I'm hopeful that he gets another opportunity. I'm hopeful it works out great for him because I'm a fan.
