The Iowa Hawkeye defense started out a bit shaky, allowing the Orange to jump out to a 10-0 lead before unleashing the offense, scoring 48 points over the final three+ quarters, allowing Syracuse only one other touchdown the rest of the day. 

The surprise of the day was how much time the running backs spent split out wide, with both Albert Young and Damian Sims catching some long passes from Jake Christensen, including a 35-yard TD grab by Sims.  Albert Young carried the load at running back, racking up 11 yards on 25 carries to go with 50 receiving yards, while Damian Sims scooped up two rushes for 16 yards and a touchdown, adding 35 through the air.

True Freshman Colin Sandeman also made a name for himself, taking a deep post route 66 yards in the first quarter, giving Iowa their first points of the game. 

The defense was full of big plays as well.  Following a tipped interception in the endzone, Harold Dalton forced a fumble at the Syracuse two yard line, scooped up by Mitch King.  Albert Young took it in two plays later.  Mike Klinkenborg stepped in front of a crossing route, outrunning the offense to the endzone with a 74-yard INT return.

Austin Signor was perfect on the day, including two field goals from inside 30 yards.
